About Us

We like to say we met at the Senior Center.  Which is true, but it’s only half the story.  The full story is that we met at the Stamford Photography Club which meets at the Senior Center.  Our first trip together was a long weekend in Maine where Shamik showed Sandy his favorite photography locations from Portland to Bar Harbor. Many trips later, Shamik proposed to Sandy at the end of a night shoot in the Sahara Desert in Morocco.

We share a love of photography, travel, food, and good movies.  The only thing we don’t seem to agree on is our camera gear.  Shamik shoots Nikon and Sony.  Sandy shoots Canon.

We offer private instruction on field techniques and post processing.  Most of our images are available in print at different sizes.  Rates vary, so please contact us using the contact forms at Shamik Photography or Sandy Gennrich Photography.

More About Sandy

I am a chronic traveler.  I’ve been to six continents (I’m missing Australia) and 49 states (I’m missing Hawaii).  I like to travel with a purpose, and my purpose these days is photography.  Most people think travel is about sleeping late, sitting on the beach, and sipping umbrella drinks.  I’m not that person.  Multiple cases of sun poisoning as a kid and a general fear of skin cancer keeps me off the beaches.  Instead, I wake up at 4 am to be at a prime location for sunrise and I stay out late taking pictures of star trails.  Don’t get me wrong though, I do enjoy a nice umbrella drink.

I’ve been taking pictures my whole life.  As a kid I had some kind of Kodak instamatic.  Eventually I turned to SLRs, and for awhile I was shooting with a Minolta.  Then came the digital age and I chucked it all on the lure of using a simple point and shoot.  During that time I practically gave up on photography.  I hated almost everything about those early years of digital and missed the creative control of an SLR.  It wasn’t until 2006 that I got serious about photography again.

I enjoy many genres including travel, nature, people, abstracts and photojournalism.  I’d love to say I’m a wildlife photographer, too, but let’s be honest —  I don’t have the patience (or the gear) for that.

More About Shamik

You probably have figured out that I like taking pictures. As you can tell, a camera and travel are very dear to me. No, I haven’t been to Antarctica. Yet. And no, I haven’t trekked the Himalayas. Yet. But I have and continue to travel every chance I get. I have met some awesome people and seen some amazing landscapes. Along the way, I have had my work displayed at few places and won a few small awards and I am very grateful for that.

On a more random note-  I think ‘The Sopranos’ and ‘The Wire’ are the best TV dramas out there. Love ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘The Godfather’ as much as ‘Man on Wire’ and ‘The Lunchbox’. Love food and cooking. Bad food makes me grumpy. Love technology and gear. Thank you Apple and Google. And I like my pint hoppy.
